Just HR is conducting a search for a Vice President, Human Resources, to lead a high-impact people function and drive modernization across all areas of HR. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive role will shape the people strategy, strengthen leadership capability, and build scalable HR programs that support growth, safety, and performance.

Our client is a dynamic, private equity-owned organization in the transportation sector. The business is undergoing significant change and investing in a more sophisticated, data-driven people function. The successful candidate will lead a team of HR professionals, partner closely with the executive team, and serve as a trusted advisor on culture, organizational design, risk, and workforce strategy.

The company operates out of their head office based in Downtown Vancouver.


Key responsibilities:


Executive leadership and strategy

  • Own the people and culture strategy aligned to the company’s growth plan and operating model.
  • Act as a key member of the executive leadership team and a direct advisor to the CEO.
  • Build strong relationships with private equity stakeholders and support people-related diligence, integration, and reporting as required.
  • Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design to support scaling and productivity.

HR modernization and operating model

  • Lead the HR transformation roadmap, including policy modernization, process redesign, and workflow optimization.
  • Ensure HR programs are scalable, consistent, and easy to execute across locations and teams.
  • Strengthen governance, documentation, and decision quality across the people function.

Talent, performance, and leadership development

  • Set and refine talent acquisition strategy to attract and retain high-quality candidates in a competitive market.
  • Elevate onboarding and orientation so new hires ramp quickly and safely.
  • Build performance management practices that improve accountability, coaching, and results.
  • Design leadership development and manager toolkits that reduce risk and improve engagement.

Total rewards and analytics

  • Oversee compensation and benefits strategy, including market benchmarking and internal equity.
  • Use HR metrics and analytics to track hiring, turnover, compensation, benefits utilization, engagement, and productivity.
  • Provide clear insights and recommendations that support business decisions.

Employee relations, compliance, and risk

  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policy, with strong, consistent application across the organization.
  • Provide executive guidance on policy interpretation, discipline, terminations, and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee workplace investigations with a fair, timely, well-documented approach.
  • Oversee WorkSafeBC claims, return-to-work processes, and workplace accommodations in partnership with operations and safety leaders.

Systems and data integrity

  • Own HRIS strategy and administration, including upgrades, vendor management, and data integrity.
  • Ensure personnel records, reporting, and compliance requirements are accurate and reliable.

Culture, engagement, and DEI

  • Strengthen culture and engagement through practical programs that improve inclusion, retention, and performance.
  • Lead DEI efforts with measurable goals and leader accountability.

Qualifications and credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • CPHR designation strongly preferred. Equivalent senior credentials are also valued.
  • 12 plus years of progressive HR experience, including 7 plus years leading teams and advising senior executives.
  • Proven success leading HR transformations in growth, restructuring, or PE-backed environments.
  • Strong knowledge of BC employment standards, investigations, and risk management. WorkSafeBC experience required.
  • Strong business judgment, executive presence, and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of using data to drive decisions.
  • Transportation, hospitality, logistics, aviation, or similar operationally complex industry experience is an asset.

Remuneration

  • Competitive executive compensation package, including base salary ($180-200K), STIP and LTIP bonuses, and very strong benefits.
