Horizon Recruitment is recruiting an Tax Manager, for a growing boutique accounting, tax and advisory firm in Langley, BC that supports private corporations, business owners, professionals and high-net-worth families across Western Canada. The firm is expanding its tax practice and is looking for a Manager, Tax who can combine strong technical knowledge with practical client advice. This role goes beyond tax compliance. You will work directly with partners and clients on complex Canadian tax matters, including corporate reorganizations, owner-manager planning, trusts, estate and succession planning, and business transactions. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced tax professional who wants meaningful client exposure, challenging planning work and room to continue developing as a trusted advisor. You will also help guide junior team members and contribute to the growth of the firm's tax practice.


Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of tax clients and build trusted, long-term relationships
  • Review corporate, personal and trust tax returns and related compliance work
  • Identify tax planning opportunities for private companies, owner-managers and high-net-worth individuals and families
  • Partner with senior tax professionals on corporate reorganizations, including estate freezes, rollovers, share transactions and other restructuring strategies
  • Support estate, succession and intergenerational wealth planning
  • Advise on tax matters related to the purchase, sale and transition of privately held businesses
  • Research complex Canadian tax issues and turn findings into clear, practical recommendations
  • Prepare and review tax planning memoranda, calculations, elections and supporting documentation
  • Support clients through CRA reviews, audits, correspondence and other tax matters
  • Work with lawyers, investment advisors, insurance professionals and other external advisors on broader business and wealth strategies
  • Review the work of junior professionals and provide coaching and technical guidance
  • Manage multiple engagements, deadlines and client deliverables while maintaining a high standard of quality
  • Stay current on Canadian tax legislation and help clients understand how changes may affect them
  • Help strengthen the tax practice through improved processes, team development and high-quality client service

Requirements

  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of progressive Canadian public practice experience, with significant exposure to taxation
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal income tax
  • Experience working with privately held corporations, owner-managers and high-net-worth clients
  • Experience reviewing corporate tax returns and managing tax compliance engagements
  • Exposure to tax planning and advisory work, such as corporate reorganizations, estate freezes, succession planning, trusts or business transactions
  • Ability to research and interpret Canadian tax legislation and explain complex issues in practical terms
  • Strong client relationship, communication and organizational skills
  • Experience reviewing junior team members' work and providing coaching or technical guidance
  • Ability to independently manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines
  • Completion of, enrollment in, or interest in pursuing the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program is an asset
  • Experience with CaseWare, Taxprep or similar public practice tax and accounting software is an asset

Remuneration

  • Base salary commensurate with experience $100K - $130K
