Why This Role Exists
Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Accountant to play a key role in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting while supporting a smooth and efficient month-end close process.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position acts as a trusted partner across the accounting function, helping ensure financial results are accurate, reconciliations are complete, and reporting deadlines are consistently met. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in full-cycle accounting, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a passion for improving processes and controls.
Responsibilities
- Support and execute the monthly close process, ensuring deadlines are met and financial information is accurate.
- Prepare and review journal entries related to accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, revenue, and expenses.
- Own balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Investigate financial variances and unusual transactions, providing clear explanations and recommendations.
- Partner with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Invoicing teams to coordinate close activities and ensure completeness of reporting.
- Prepare financial reporting packages, supporting schedules, and accounts receivable reporting for leadership review.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
- Support management reporting and variance analysis, helping identify trends and key business insights.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure accounting processes are well documented.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and automate manual accounting processes.
- Support system enhancements and accounting-related projects.
- Oversee payroll-related accounting entries, reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting activities.
- Assist with revenue accounting, accounts receivable and payable oversight, and intercompany transactions.
- Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor requests, and support year-end audit activities.
- Ensure financial records are audit-ready and compliant with internal policies and reporting requirements.
Requirements
- CPA designation completed or in progress.
- 2+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close activities.
- Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end working papers.
- Understanding of ASPE and financial statement preparation.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Experience working with ERP systems; NetSuite experience is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Process improvement mindset with an interest in automation and operational efficiency.
- Public accounting experience is an asset; industry experience is preferred.
