Property Accountant

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Property Accountant to support a growing real estate portfolio by ensuring accurate financial reporting and strong operational insight across multiple properties. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial integrity, supporting decision-making, and helping the business run efficiently through reliable accounting practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial and or residential properties
• Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis for stakeholders
• Reconcile bank accounts, rent rolls, and general ledger accounts
• Record and review accruals, prepaids, and intercompany transactions
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes for assigned properties
• Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding tenant balances
• Review and process accounts payable, ensuring proper coding and approvals
• Assist with year-end audit preparation and provide required documentation
• Maintain accurate property-level financial records and supporting schedules
• Partner with property managers to resolve discrepancies and improve reporting
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting efficiency

Requirements

• 2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
• Experience with property management or accounting systems (such as Yardi or similar)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-finance teams
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA is an asset

Remuneration

$70,000 - $90,000 base salary, plus competitive benefits
