Payroll Specialist - 3 months +

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Payroll Specialist on a 3 month contract engagement to support a growing technology business as it scales its operations across Canada. This role exists to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with Canadian payroll regulations. You will take ownership of payroll processing and expenses, while also supporting benefits administration and improving systems as the company continues to grow.

Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle Canadian payroll for salaried and contract employees
• Manage the company expense platform and ensure timely processing
• Review expense submissions for policy compliance and proper approvals
• Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies
• Partner with operations to ensure accurate employee setup and pay data
• Collaborate with HR to maintain employee records and administer benefits
• Verify timesheets and calculate deductions, stat pay, and required remittances
• Process new hires, terminations, T4s, and ROEs
• Support payroll and benefits reconciliations
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and payroll adjustments
• Contribute to system improvements and process enhancements

Requirements

• 3+ years of Canadian payroll experience
• PCP designation required
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance
• Experience with full-cycle payroll processing
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
• Clear and professional communication skills
• Comfortable working with payroll systems such as ADP
• Experience with expense tools such as Expensify or WebExpenses is an asset
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Remuneration

$35 to $40 per hour, depending on experience, plus benefits including RRSP matching, comprehensive health coverage, paid vacation, flex days, and a paid birthday off.
