Lead, Environmental Compliance

JUST HR is recruiting for a Lead, Environmental Compliance to support a major industrial project in British Columbia. This 6-month contract role plays a key part in ensuring the site meets all environmental laws, permits, and sustainability commitments. Working closely with the HSEC Manager and site teams, the successful candidate will lead compliance efforts through inspections, audits, reporting, and engagement with regulatory bodies. Your work will directly contribute to the project's environmental performance and long-term success.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations
  • Conduct site inspections and environmental audits
  • Maintain records and documentation related to permits and regulatory requirements
  • Lead environmental reporting on emissions, water use, and waste management
  • Investigate incidents and support corrective action planning
  • Coordinate hazardous materials handling, pollution prevention, and waste strategies
  • Develop and support training on environmental policies and procedures
  • Liaise with regulators through the site environmental team
  • Stay current with changes in legislation and environmental best practices
  • Collaborate with engagement staff to meet project-specific environmental commitments

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field
  • 5–10 years of experience in environmental compliance or a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of CEPA, BC Environmental Management Act, and other regulations
  • Experience conducting audits, preparing reports, and managing permitting
  • Skilled in data analysis, documentation, and issue resolution
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental management systems
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work on a site-based rotation
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, sustainability programs, and industrial project environments an asset

Remuneration

$70–$80 per hour, 6-month contract.

Rotation-based work schedule, with travel and fieldwork required.
