Horizon Recruitment  is recruiting for a  Controller  who will act as a key financial partner to senior leadership and play a central role in how the business operates and grows. This position goes beyond traditional accounting - it connects financial performance to real business decisions across two distinct revenue streams. The Controller owns the full finance function, ensures accuracy in reporting, and continuously improves processes, systems, and workflows. This role is ideal for someone who wants to build, optimize, and influence rather than maintain the status quo.


Responsibilities:

  • Own the general ledger and ensure accuracy across all accounting activities
  • Lead month-end close including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
  • Manage revenue recognition across contract and permanent placement streams
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and deliver clear, actionable insights
  • Perform variance analysis and support budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships and credit facilities
  • Oversee GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and regulatory compliance
  • Manage full-cycle payroll for contractors and internal employees across multiple provinces
  • Administer year-end processes including T4s and coordination with external accountants
  • Act as the primary contact for contractor agreement and payroll-related inquiries
  • Oversee invoicing across both contract and permanent placement billing models
  • Manage accounts receivable and ensure timely collections
  • Maintain relationships with insurers, auditors, regulators, and service providers
  • Lead system improvements including migration to QuickBooks Online and integrations
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement automation to improve workflows

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is an asset
  • Experience in a Controller or similar role with full ownership of finance operations
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks; migration experience is an asset
  • Experience with system integrations and process improvements
  • Familiarity with multi-province payroll and compliance requirements
  • Experience in recruitment, professional services, or project-based billing environments is an asset
  • Ability to manage complex payroll structures, including contractor models
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate financial data
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a hands-on role
  • Proactive communicator who identifies issues and brings solutions

Remuneration

  • $80,000 - $90,000 per year plus annual bonus and extended health benefits.
