Privacy Manager
Location:
Toronto, Ontario
Reference Number:
JO-2609-13678
Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Privacy Manager to help turn a formal retention and deletion policy into consistent, practical business processes. This role will work across multiple LOBs to understand what data they hold, how it is used, where it sits, and what needs to happen when retention periods expire or a customer requests deletion.
The successful candidate will bring structure and accountability to a cross-functional program, helping business teams translate privacy requirements into clear actions, owners, timelines, and evidence. Over time, the role is expected to expand into broader privacy monitoring, testing, and controls.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of retention and deletion requirements across multiple business areas.
- Work with stakeholders to understand what data they own or use, where it resides, and how it flows through business processes.
- Translate privacy requirements into practical plans, actions, owners, and deadlines.
- Coordinate customer or client deletion requests and ensure appropriate follow-through.
- Help teams establish processes for identifying and deleting data that has reached the end of its approved retention period.
- Track implementation progress and identify gaps, delays, and unclear ownership.
- Follow up with stakeholders to keep commitments on track and escalate unresolved issues when needed.
- Assess whether documented processes are actually operating as intended, rather than relying solely on reported completion.
- Partner with privacy leadership to provide clear visibility into progress, risks, and areas requiring intervention.
- Build strong working relationships with business teams.
- Develop practical knowledge of the wider privacy program and contribute to monitoring, testing, and QA activities over time.
Requirements
- 3-5 years' experience with a financial institution in privacy, compliance, risk, governance, or controls function.
- Experience work within or leading cross-functional projects or programs involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to influence people who do not report directly to you.
- Demonstrated ability to turn requirements, policies, or business objectives into practical processes and action plans.
- Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to track owners, actions, deadlines, and dependencies.
- Experience working in privacy, compliance, risk, governance, controls, regulated processes, or a related environment is an asset.
- Working knowledge of privacy concepts, particularly data retention and deletion.
- Comfortable asking questions and developing an understanding of unfamiliar business processes and data uses.
- Strong judgment and attention to detail when assessing whether a process is complete and supported by evidence.
- Comfortable following up with stakeholders, addressing resistance, and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Privacy certification is an asset but is not required.
Remuneration
- Competitive salary with benefits.
Only candidates eligible to work in Canada will be considered
